| The McGavock High School Marching Band is steeped in the tradition of excellence. The band takes pride in representing the community of Nashville and the state of Tennessee throughout the entire country. The 200+ member McGavock Band has been the Tennessee State Marching Champion 24 years and has been named "one of the ten finest bands in the country" by the National Band Association. The program is made up of the marching band, three concert bands, a jazz ensemble, three percussion ensembles, various chamber groups, and a winter guard program. Highlighting their award winning history, the band has appeared in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, the Statue of Liberty Rededication in New York City, the nationally televised Bob Hope Christmas Special, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, the Orange Bowl Parade in Miami, Florida, the Hollywood Christmas Parade in Hollywood, California and in a nationally televised advertisement series for Toyota. The Band has won the Grand Championship title at the Contest of Champions twelve times. The Band has won the Grand Championship title of the Bands of America Southeastern Regional Championship three times and was awarded the internationally acclaimed Sudler Shield Award by the John Philip Sousa Foundation. |
